As can be seen from the links below, this issue is damaging An Post's reputation abroad. I imagine It could have been handled better than this. Surely someone could have seen where this was going to go . This poor woman traumatised with guns, then sacked as well!

From the Examiner "The husband of a postmistress in Co Donegal last night claimed that An Post have completely ignored their calls for better security around their homes."
An Post should take note of this and avoid History repeating itself, even though the cause of the conflict may differ it seems to be going in the same direction, with lots of local support for the postmistress.
The Battle of Baltinglass
The name by which a cause célèbre of 1950 was known in the Irish media. The dispute was caused by the action of a parish-pump politician, James Everett (1890-1967) labour T.D. for Wicklow.
We have sourced a number of links which give a view of the background of the issues and most importantly the amount of local Support for the Carrigans Postmistress who was victim of an armed robbery and who is being sacked by An Post. see links to articles below
In todays Irish independent Stephen Maguire reports Robbed by an armed gang -so An Post gave her the sack "They keep telling me that I did not follow the proper security procedures -- but how can you do that when three armed men try to rob you?" she asked.
Shane, we'll have to correct you on this one. Trade union intrangisense in the context of the CWU is a big joke. the CWU has got to be the most compliant union in Ireland and the darling of any CEO
Paddy getting the miles in on the hills in Howth

Were getting lot's of good wishes for a speedy recovery from a recent operation in Beaumont Hospital for retired Baldoyle Postman Paddy (chucksie) Beauchamp from all his friends and wellwishers from An Post and running. We hope Paddy will be back flying around Howth soon.
So the question we must ask ourselves is do we trust the government and the economists, do we trust An Post management do we trust our Unions?. That’s the dilemma that we will face in the months ahead as they try to hive us off to the bidders.
Yahoo I.m outta here. A Whole 30 seconds too soon!!
