The Financial Regulator is an independent watchdog set up by the Government to:

they can help you make informed decisions about your personal finances
regulate firms that provide financial services.
They do not sell anything. they give you free, independent information in plain English and help answer your questions.

They provide information on financial products such as mortgages, credit cards, personal loans and insurance. the  information can help you to do things like:

save money on your motor insurance
get the best deal on your mortgage
shop around for the cheapest credit card
decide on your life insurance needs
look for the best value personal loan.

Their information can help you understand financial products so that you can ask the right questions and make the right choices for your needs.

You can contact the regulator on 1890 200 469 to check if a firm is regulated or get a list of advisors in your area. Or you can click on the warning notices on itsyourmoney.ie website for an update on firms that have been operating without authorisation. Remember, that you do not have the same protection if you deal with a firm that is not regulated.
