Reply to us from Minister Ryan 17-6-09

As you know, the ESOP Term Sheet was signed in 2000, almost nine years ago. The An Post Board has advised me and I agree with their view that, this is too long a period for any meaningful evaluation of any cost savings. It seems that if plans for an ESOP are to progress, particularly in the current economic climate, it may be necessary to commence a new review process.

On foot of a request from the CWU, a meeting of parties to the ESOP i.e. my Department, the An Post Unions and An Post Management took place under the auspices of the Labour Relations Commission (LRC). The outcome of their discussion is that the An Post Unions are to meet on a review of the ESOP.

The views of the Unions will then be communicated by the LRC to the Department and An Post.

Yours sincerely

Eamon Ryan T.D.
Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources
