Part of report from Business Week Magazine dated30/4/2008

"An Post Reports earnings results for the full year 2007

For the year the company made a record profit of 43.3 million euro. Turnover rose by 57 million to 876 million with the amount of mail soaring by 5.3 per cent.A record operating profit has been achieved .on a very solid financial performance."

Now maybe I have got it wrong somewhere along the line but this report seems to confirm what we as employees have known for quite some time. Not only are An Post making substantial profits but there has also been a huge increase in the amount of mail being handled.

This taken in conjunction with a significant drop in the number of delivery staff since the the Collection and Delivery Agreement came into operation over the past number of years confirms what staff on delivery duty have known for some time that the volume of mail has increased substantially.

It does look as though the herculean efforts of the staff have turned the company around from what the former chief executive reported in 2003, that was "that An Post was in dire financial straits and soon would not be able to pay the wage bill".

With the company now in profit after this miraculous recovery it might now be the opportune time to honour the E S O P which the company and Minsters have reneged on over the last number of years. If we are as we are told the company's greatest asset now is the ideal opportunity for An Post management to redeem themselves in the eyes of people like myself and my colleagues.Talk is cheap, action is now whats needed its time to pay the piper.
