What is it? "Day Defer is a free service offered to business customers whereby mail is held from delivery for up to two specific days per week. This mail should be delivered to ther customer on the next available delivery day." This is followed by two pages of procedure for this new? service.
Now somebody has spent lots of time, probably very expensive time developing this procedure. When commonsense would have just left things to the DSMs and staff this at local level to deal with these situations as they arise as has happened sucesfully for many years.
Or is it a case that this type of thing is what justifies some of the management staffs high wages and makes it look like there are things happening when in many cases the postmen / women and local DSMs would have things under control at local level if they were let do their jobs without the massive interference and autocratic approach that has developed over the last while.
Someone needs to show more trust in the local staff, remember they are the experts and will still be in their job when some of the heads currently pressurising them will be moved on to look after the paper clips and elastics.
Remember It was highlighted here first!.
Donal, you really need a workshop with your footsoldiers and some independent facilitators if you want to learn how the system might best work.
Below is some detail from the letter of Dec 11, 2009 addressing this issue
Every year a local credit union would have its mail for it's financial report delivered by An Post. The credit union only opens 3 days a week so on the days it was closed, the postal operative would hold the mail for a day and then deliver the next day in agreement with the credit union management.
The credit union were happy, the postal operative was happy, but when our DSM found out, he was far from happy. He told the postal worker to deliver the mail on a daily basis. He rang the credit union and informed them that if they did'nt get a mailbox, their mail would be killed off.
Revenge is sweet. This year An Post did'nt deliver the credit union's mail. It was delivered by hand by credit union staff. for complete letter go to link below
