Privatisation is on the agenda of the Government and the economists again. The way forward for this circus troop is to sell off state assets to help to balance the books. The carrot for workers in An Post will be shares in this great venture and no doubt after a number of brief skirmishes’ our Unions will tell us this is the way forward and we have to be competitive.
I don’t wish to go into a major dialogue and there are many and varied views on this subject. In any agreement the main ingredient is trust. So the question we must ask ourselves is do we trust the government and the economists, do we trust An Post management do we trust our Unions. That’s the dilemma that we will face in the months ahead as they try to hive us off to the bidders.
Be ready for a campaign of privatisation by all of the above and ask yourself do you trust them. The shares issue is not a runner as we already own 14.99 % of An Post . So what’s in it for us? Ten long years ago we agreed to major change and part of that agreement was our shareholding in the company. Ten years on and still no shares .I know where I stand on this issue do you?
