Which party will halt the march towards Royal Mail privatisation?Who will stop Royal Mail privatisation? Those of us who are opposed to Royal Mail privatisation find that none of the major parties represent our views this election.

As a public sector worker and a traditional Labour supporter, I've been effectively disenfranchised ever since New Labour took the reins of power and ditched the old Clause Four in favour of some fluffy-bunny type platitudes about justice and openness and everyone being nice to each other.

The original Clause Four, drafted by Sidney Webb in November 1917, was Labour's historic commitment to public ownership. It was written in archaic language, and was a bit clunky to read, but was very clear: "To secure for the workers by hand or by brain the full fruits of their industry."

The full fruits of our industry, note, not just a few scraps picked up from under the table once the banking sector has finished gorging itself.    For complete article go to link below

A Bad Day

There are good days and bad days. Yesterday was a bad day.

I came into work at the usual time. There was the usual banter. “Morning Roy, aren’t you ready to go yet?” This is because I do a four-hour shift and, properly speaking, my frame should have been thrown off by the time I arrive. It never is, and it never has been since I started working part-time about three years ago now. I always get the same jokes though. “I expect you’ll be picking up your bags and going out,” they say, followed by – about ten minutes later – “you still here then Roy? You should be finishing your first bag by now.”  Go to the link for the complete story  http://hubpages.com/hub/Idiot-Wind

The new agreement between the Royal Mail and the CWU is out as I’m sure you’ve heard. I’m looking at a copy now. It’s called – in a phrase which is both ominous and bland at the same time – “Business Transformation 2010 and Beyond.”

The postal industry's greatest problem is not modernisation, but unfair agreements with private mail companies.. See link to article below

Royal Mail deal is junk
Royal Mail's deal with the CWU is not just bad for postal workers – it will leave our postboxes stuffed with junk mail

According to the official communiques, both sides in the postal workers' dispute are delighted with the complex deal that has been ironed out over the past weeks. The CWU is calling it a 6.9% pay rise over three years; the management is hailing the agreement as opening the way to "transformation" of the business. But before they vote for it, Royal Mail staff should read the small print of the 80-page document. I had the opportunity to pore over a leaked draft version, and in my view, whatever is being said about it by senior officials, this deal does not deliver.  for article go to the link below
