This is the text of the letter circulating, that Fianna Fail deny was from them.

"1st May 2009

Joe,

Good to hear from you and I hope to find you well.

We understand a lot of our canvassers are finding it tough on the doorstep.  This is understandable in the current economic climate and a lot of the voters are using their hardship as an excuse to attack Fianna Fáil.

We ask that all candidates and canvassers listen to what they want to say and be seen to highlight these points in a notebook.  Make the voter aware that you will bring these points to the attention of the party.  Also ask to record their name and email address so you can get back to that person.  Research shows that when you show interest in the person in such a way, they will be inclined to soften their view on FF.

At present all cumann's should have all necessary posters and print material and over the coming week we are working on the diaries of the ministers and where we will be sending them.  All our ministers are keen to get out and tackle the electorate head-on.  We have nothing to be ashamed of.  I am not sure where we stand in Ennis yet.

We are also finding the following points working on the canvass.

Sticking to local issues
Comment on the media and the way they have talked down the economy
Show interest in schooling and education if they have children
With the All-Ireland championships starting in May - Open up with something about the county team
If you are working with a local councillor highlight achievements in that area
If you are speaking on Europe - focus on Lisbon treaty and what it will mean to the country by voting yes.

I hope this helps.
